Welcome to our “Feel Good Friday” series -- where we highlight positivity at Issuetrak, including some of the amazing volunteer work that our employees have accomplished!
At Issuetrak, we encourage our team to get out and volunteer as much as possible. We offer our employees paid time off for volunteering to give them the opportunity to give back to their communities and the organizations that are important to them.
Vicky Aldridge, Issuetrak’s Assistant Controller, has been the Treasurer for the Chief Petty Officer Scholarship Fund since 2015. This organization raises money to provide scholarships to dependents of U.S. Navy Chiefs.
The fund is based in Virginia Beach, but its impact reaches across the globe to wherever U.S. Navy Chiefs may be currently living. Commands from many different locales hold their own fundraisers to support the fund’s ultimate mission.
Every year, Vicky helps organize the group’s biggest local fundraiser: the Best of the Mess, a cooking competition where six Hampton Roads Naval commands face off and create dishes using four ingredients chosen by a guest chef.
“We have about 400 guests that sample their creations, vote on the fan-favorite and best-decorated station, and participate in a silent auction, dancing, and other games throughout the night,” says Vicky.
The Best of the Mess event was what originally inspired her to begin volunteering with the group. A former colleague came up with the idea for the fundraiser, and Vicky went to the first event to show support.
“I fell in love with the event and how it was being run,” she says. She continued to attend each year until, several years later, the Vice Chairman of the group reached out to her to fill the Treasurer position -- and the rest was history. Vicky now helps run the event as well as the MCPON Walker Legacy motorcycle ride, Harbor Park Day, Norfolk CPOSF Golf Tournament, and other smaller fundraisers throughout the year.
