Dear Issuetrak Community,
Issuetrak and its customers have been working together for fifteen years to improve the world of issue tracking. As a result, we now have a world-class issue-tracking product. We’ve also learned how to support customers in ways that ensure a positive experience with our software and keep them moving towards their business goals.
Lately, we’ve been asked, “What is your plan going forward? Where will Issuetrak be in X years?”
To provide the best answer, I want to avoid long-range guesses or promises, which can become imprecise very quickly and often don’t end up helping the customer. Instead, I want to express our trajectory in themes that define who we are and what we are striving to become.
In the past twelve months, Issuetrak has developed an appreciation for being “agile.” Rather than promise a monumental amount of work to be done in several years time, we set our sights on bite-size pieces to be accomplished in weeks or months. This keeps us very responsive to customer needs, to new technologies, and to feedback from the community. We believe that this approach translates to more work being accomplished in a given timespan because the workload is managed more effectively, and it forces us to abide by priorities that directly serve the customer.
That being said, there are specific areas where Issuetrak is committed to growing. I’ll outline three of these areas.
Ease of use
Simplicity is a passion of mine. I want to improve the quality of interactions that users have with our web application by simplifying some of our pages and components. With our 9.9 release, we accomplished some much needed “freshening” of our user interface. That was good, but we need to do more. And, we need to do the right things. Issuetrak is committed to improving usability. In fact, we’ve been developing a Usability Lab at our Virginia Beach site for this very purpose. We’re not interested in radical changes that shake up our users. We want to identify areas for improvement, and then improve.
Modern business is driven by data. The more data that can flow in and out of systems, the better those systems can serve the business. For Issuetrak, that means creating a system that lets you freely move data around and perform comprehensive analyses that equip your business for amazing success. Issuetrak has its sights set on a few key places that handle data: our brand new API (now available to the public), our reporting tools, and our dashboard. While we can’t unveil everything just yet, rest assured, you won’t be disappointed!
In today’s world, developers realize that in order for an application to be truly valuable, it needs to talk to other systems — it cannot monopolize your data. Issuetrak already has some tools for integration, like Incoming Email and the Issuetrak API, but we want to do more. We’d like to see a rich ecosystem of inter-software communication with other talented application developers in the world. And we think this will position Issuetrak as one of the most powerful, business-friendly solutions on the planet.
Issuetrak in Conclusion
Issuetrak works passionately to advocate for customer success. This motivation drives our roadmap for the company’s future. With new talent onboard and a rich history of customer interactions, and having learned some significant lessons over the past several years, Issuetrak is undoubtedly on track to become the most valuable issue-tracking tool ever. Our blooming innovation and strong relationships with our customers are the backbone to Issuetrak’s strategy. I’m looking forward to our bright future together. All the best,
Chief Executive Officer
