For those who participate in the Lenten season, tradition loads Fat Tuesday treats with ‘tons of calories’ and offers one last opportunity to indulge in baked goods and sweets.
Whether you're celebrating a holiday or entertaining that doesn't mean you have to give up any healthy goals you've made. Here's a few tips on how you can do your best to stay on track.
Never go to a party hungry. This will only cause you to eat more throughout the night. Try to have a small snack before attending so you aren’t starved when you arrive.
Don't go overboard: It can be easy to cave when it comes to eating healthy
during a holiday or evening out, but while you shouldn't have to forgo every delicious dessert during festivities, you should still make strategic decisions before you dine. This can be as simple as making the (just slightly) smarter choice when faced with a menu of option.
Stick to your regular exercise program. It can be very easy to break a workout habit, and especially so during the holidays. But if you’ve got one, try to maintain it and you will thank yourself next time you hit the scales.
And of course, there's that magic remedy for staying healthy--getting plenty of sleep.
So whether you participate in Mardi Gras festivities, observe Lent, or use other holidays as an excuse to indulge, be mindful of the swings between ‘too much’ and ‘not enough.’ As long as done in moderation, it is not a crime to treat yourself once in a while. With the same token try not to set drastic restrictions that only make you want to binge even more. Finding a balance in your lifestyle habits will provide you with the sanity that is needed to stay healthy.
