Biggest Loser Week 6 - Upgrading Your Greatest Asset

By Julie Heiman on February 08, 2012

Going into week 6 our Biggest Loser contestants are almost half way through the contest.  It's inspiring to see so many that have made the decision to eat better, take charge of their health, and upgrade their bodies for better overall health.

Making the decision to live healthier and maintain things is a discipline. It takes dedication and hard work.  For so many of us we don't think twice about spending hours days, weeks, etc. up-keeping our possessions . We baby our vehicles, homes, computers, televisions, phones and every other electronic gadget we own. We have schedules for when our vehicles need an oil change, our computers need software updates, our phone needs upgrading and our home needs maintenance.  But what about our bodies? How come so many of us back burner maintaining the most important thing that we own…our very own bodies!

Just like a car, our bodies need to be maintained. We need to put time into keeping our bodies running healthy every day. The reason so many people go on diets, lose weight and then gain it all back again is because they aren’t living a healthy lifestyle. It’s quite easy to go a short period of time without eating junk food. But cutting it out of your daily, weekly and monthly nutrition is a discipline.

So what should you do to upgrade your health and maintain your body?

Eat a balanced diet of healthy foods
To achieve a balanced diet, eat a variety of foods from each of the food groups.

Drink plenty of water
A general rule of thumb for how much it will take to keep your body’s supercomputer in top working condition is  to drink half your body weight in ounces. For instance, if you weigh 150 pounds, then you should drink at least 75 ounces of water per day (75oz./8 oz), which is about 9 cups per day.

Exercise at least 4-5 times per week
Our bodies were meant to move -- they actually crave exercise. Regular exercise is necessary for physical fitness and good health. It reduces the risk of heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, diabetes and other diseases. It can improve your appearance and delay the aging process.

Sleep
Sleep is an essential component to maintaining a healthy body and mind. Aim for a minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep

Upgrade and maintain your greatest asset...YOU!
